Family Oral Care: Everyday Tips for Healthy Smile at Any Age

Having a healthy smile and good oral health not only contributes to a positive self-image, but also contributes to good overall bodily health and well-being. For this reason, it is important that you take the necessary steps to keep your smile in proper health, for years to come. This can be easily achieved by utilizing daily practices to develop and maintain good oral habits.

Regular Dental Visits: Make sure that you are regular to your dental appointments. It is recommended that you see your dentist biannually for a dental cleaning and exam, and to ask any questions or address any concerns that you may have throughout the year.

Flossing: Make a habit of regular flossing of your teeth. Large amounts of plaque and tartar stay wedged between the tooth and gums, and can only be removed when flossed. Flossing, therefore, helps reduce the likelihood of gum disease and it can aid in preventing cavities over the long-term.

Eat Right, Drink Right: Be careful and aware of what you are eating and drinking! Not only do some liquids and foods stain your teeth, but some can cause sensitivity and create additional problems for you. Be sure to communicate any concerns regarding sensitivity to your dental professional.

Proper Brushing: Take your time to ensure that you are properly brushing your teeth. Many people make the unfortunate mistake of quickly brushing their teeth and running out the door. Simply running a tooth brush over your teeth does not eliminate bacteria. Do you wash your dishes with one brief swipe of the sponge? Of course not. Take your time and do a proper job cleaning to ensure that your teeth are healthy and well cared for. Many dental experts recommend at least 2 minutes of brushing for cleaner and healthier teeth.

As mentioned, any questions or concerns should be directed to your dental professional. Healthy teeth contribute to a healthy life and ensure oral satisfaction down the road!
