Our Longmont Orthodontic Services
Braces are a wonderful investment in your oral and overall health, and people of all ages can benefit from orthodontic treatment. When your teeth line up the way they should, you can achieve a better clean through brushing and flossing -- and you also get all the benefits of an attractive smile. Keep reading to learn more about our orthodontic options, including traditional orthodontics and Invisalign.
Traditional orthodontics is probably what you imagine when you hear “braces.” These are metal brackets and wires that are affixed to the front side of the teeth. They work by exerting focused pressure on different areas of the bite throughout the treatment. The average treatment time with traditional metal braces is 12 to 18 months.
The benefits of traditional orthodontics include:
- Highly predictable results
- Patients of all ages can benefit, even young children
- No risk of losing equipment with fixed braces
- Younger patients like customizable colors
Invisalign is a clear braces option that allows you to straighten your teeth without the need for metal brackets and wires. Following the same orthodontic principles as traditional braces, these clear plastic aligners place focused pressure on different areas of the bite to gradually bring the teeth into proper alignment.
To create your Invisalign aligners, we will carefully examine your bite and determine the appropriate treatment method. Impressions, X-rays, and photographs are taken of your dentition. This information is sent to the Invisalign lab, where your series of aligners is created and then shipped to you.
You wear each aligner for one to two weeks, depending on our recommendation, before advancing to the next in the series.
The benefits of Invisalign include:
- Clear plastic aligners are practically invisible
- Removable aligners make life more convenient, as you can continue to eat what you like without fear of popping off a bracket or wire
- Dental hygiene is as easy as ever with removable aligners
- Feel free to take Invisalign out before big meetings or introductions, as long as you are wearing them for 20 to 22 hours each day
Which One Is Right for You?
The orthodontic method that is best for you depends on a few factors, including your budget, smile goals, and your personal preference. Removable braces may be a better option for older patients, as young teens often find it difficult to keep up with the requirements of Invisalign.
