Preventive Dentistry Services
Keeping your smile whole and healthy is the top priority at Fox Creek Family Dental. Our Longmont dentistry practice has a focus on preventive care. Every patient receives a personalized dental treatment plan that centers around keeping their natural smiles whole and healthy. The bulk of our preventive treatment is offered during six month dental checkups where we evaluate your smile, screen for warning signs of oral health concerns, and partner with you to create a plan to achieve your healthiest smile and keep it. If it’s been six months or more since your last dental checkup, it’s time to call the Longmont dentistry team at Fox Creek Family Dental to schedule your checkup with our caring dentists today.
Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings
During your dental checkup, you can expect four main steps to be carried out. First, we’ll capture diagnostic x-rays and images that will be used to reveal signs of decay and other damage for our team, but we will also demonstrate these concerns to you on our chairside computer monitors. You’ll be able to see just what we see, and this will help you to better understand your oral health concerns and potential treatment options. In addition to these x-rays and images, we’ll visually and manually examine your teeth and chart your gums. One of the earliest signs of gum disease is a larger pocket between the teeth and gums, so by charting the depths of these pockets during each checkup, we will be able to recognize the warning signs of gum disease right away. As we examine your teeth and look at the diagnostic images, we’ll be screening for the common symptoms of numerous oral health concerns including tooth decay, gum disease, teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and oral cancer. Next, a skilled hygienist thoroughly cleans and polishes your teeth, removing all plaque and tartar buildup. Finally, we sit down with you one on one to discuss any areas of concern, recommend treatment options, answer your questions, and create your personalized oral health plan.
Dental sealant treatment is a simple way to protect teeth from decay for years. With just one coating of clear sealant material, the surfaces of teeth are protected, and there is a physical barrier between the tooth enamel and plaque and tartar buildup. If you continue to brush and floss regularly, your dental sealants should remain in place for years.
Fluoride is a nutrient essential during the development of healthy teeth. Ingested fluoride in tap water, certain vegetables, and dietary supplements is used by the body to create strong, healthy teeth. Once teeth erupt from the gums, topical fluoride is necessary to keep teeth whole and healthy. Most patients receive adequate fluoride from their daily brushing with fluoridated toothpastes. However, for patients with naturally softer enamel, those who suffer chronic decay, and kids who are still developing their oral hygiene skills, professional fluoride treatments may be necessary. The process is very simple. We apply a thin coat of fluoride varnish to the teeth at the end of your checkup appointment. We allow the fluoride to dry to teeth, and it sets to work strengthening enamel for the next six months.
We are a family dentistry practice, and we welcome patients from the age of 1 to 101, but we especially love having the opportunity to work with kids. During children’s dentistry appointments, we have two goals. The first is to provide the same quality of care we give to our adult patients, but for younger children, the second goal may be more important. Our team wants kids to learn to love visiting the dentist. The majority of adults who experience dental phobia or anxiety point to a bad experience in their youth as the reason why. At Fox Creek Family Dental, we will always go above and beyond to make sure every member of your family is comfortable and feels right at home in our office.
